Now, I May Be Wrong, But Frankly, I Doubt It.
Introduction#
The second chapter of Murder, They Wrote takes place on Saturday, October 18th in Florence, from 11:00 to approximately 19:00, at the Circolo di San Quirico, Via Pisana 598.
Each participant will play an elderly lady, 75 years or older โ yes, whatever your gender, you'll play a lady! โ a passionate member of the Adamantine book club, which meets monthly to discuss the latest intriguing novel from their favorite detective series, featuring Detective Ada C. Beufort.
To stay in step with the times, our ladies have been invited to attend the screening of an independent, experimental short film by a young local director. After all, one must support these young people with their new ideas, even if the result is sometimes a bit... well, what can one say: young people these days have a rather strange way of doing everything. Besides, word has it he's a rising star of local cinema โ and this is a cultural event with a select audience, a perfect occasion to dust off your critical eye.

Frequently asked questions#
Do I need to have played Chapter 1 to join Chapter 2?
No! Chapter 2 is a standalone story: you can participate even if you've never played the first chapter, just like any episode of Murder, She Wrote!
Can I keep my character if I already played?
Yes! Players who participated in Chapter 1 can keep their lady and continue her story.
It's possible that some characters were played by more than one person across both chapters: in that case, the players can work out amongst themselves who wishes to take the role. If any "doubles" arise, we'll handle them on a case-by-case basis. ๐

Game experience#
At the heart of the experience, alongside playing the book club ladies, is investigation: our ladies will find themselves caught up in a case to solve, gathering clues, interrogating suspects, and comparing theories. To help them along the way, a simple mechanic will be available to request a hint if they feel stuck or uncertain. In addition, each character will have personal contacts listed on their sheet โ friends, relatives, or old acquaintances โ that must be "activated" during play to obtain useful information or open new leads.
The setting is loosely inspired by the atmosphere and situations typical of Murder, She Wrote and Brindlewood Bay. It is not an official setting nor a faithful adaptation: the story takes place in Italy, with original characters and locations. No figures from the TV series will appear, nor will there be any supernatural elements or otherworldly mysteries from Brindlewood Bay.
Characters and roleplay#
In this larp you will play ladies of a respectable age, with their ailments, quirks, and small everyday challenges โ but also free from the obligations and responsibilities of worldly life. The tone of the experience is light and comedic, with moments of tension and mystery.
The intent is not to mock or ridicule elderly people, but to pay tribute to their particularities, their role in family and society, and the stories they have to tell. Every player is encouraged to portray their character with respect and sensitivity, highlighting the qualities that make each club member unique.
As a man, how do I play a lady?
We get asked this often, and it's a legitimate question! We chose to offer female characters because the social role of the "old lady" is very different from that of an elderly man โ and we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to live the same experience, with the same codes, the same challenges, and the same connections.
This larp requires no extreme transformation โ nobody will ask you to shave or put on a female voice if you don't want to โ you could simply be a lady with a bit more facial hair and a deeper voice! The goal is not to "look like a lady", but to live like one: with her convictions, her habits, her worldview. The trick is to always ask yourself: "what would my grandmother do?" ๐
